DESCRIPTION: Length up to 16mm.  A large species of the Hemiptera order recognised by its black and cream banded antennae and connexivum and the brown speckling to the wings body and head. The underside of the body is light coloured and shows dark spots. On its underside, between the hips (on the 1st sternite), there is a long spur. BEHAVIOUR: Adults live up to 2 years and feed on the plant sap of various trees and shrubs. Occasionally they suck the body fluids of dead insects. When threatened they can release a foul-smelling secretion. DISTRIBUTION: Very scarce and only found in Southern Britain particularly around the London area. HABITAT: Hedgerows, woodland edges, parks and gardens, usually in a sun-catching spot.
